Tennis Coach
Darrell Hawkins
My name is Darrell Hawkins, and I am a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) PNW board representative from Northern Oregon. I have played tennis for more than 40 years. I earned a B.S. in Finance from OSU and a MS in Management in Information Systems from CWRU, and I am currently employed as a Principal Delivery Practice Leader for IBM Technical Expert Labs, U.S. I became a member of the USPTA in 1997 because I am motivated by a desire to help juniors and adults learn tennis.
As a player, I was a high school and college varsity letterman and USTA ranked player in the PNW in singles (#2) and doubles (#1). My introduction to organizing tennis teams came when I was President of the Oregon State University Club tennis teams from 1988-92. Then I started coaching the Corvallis High School boys’ tennis team (1998-2000), winning the Valley League Championship in 1999. I returned to high school coaching in 2022, as Head Coach, Varsity Boys’ Tennis at West Linn High School – supporting our team to 3rd place at the OSAA 6A State Championship. In 2023, the team went undefeated during the season, as the Three Rivers League (TRL) Champions and sent a record number of 7 boys to the State Championship, capturing the team OSAA 6A State Championship title. In 2024, we were TRL Conference Co-Champions with LOHS and placed 2nd at the State Championships. In 2024, Coach Hawkins was recognized as TRL Coach of the Year, Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) 6A Coach of the Year, and USPTA PNW Coach of the Year. I continue to support the tennis community through the Portland Tennis and Education Foundation as well as local tennis academies and high school programs.
I look forward to working with you and your family this summer at HSRRA to learn the game and improve your tennis!!
